To Pike's Peak & back

Today we took a train to the top of Pike's Peak. What an awesome trip!! It took an hour for the Cog Railway to get to the top - a 9 mile trip. There were times it felt like we would slide off our seats because it was so steep. Twenty-five percent grades. When we got to the top, it felt like we were on the top of the world. Although John found out that Pike's Peak is the 31st highest peak in Colorado. And attention racecar fans!! - When we got to the top, there was a wedding taking place & we found out it was Bobby Unser's youngest son Robby getting married on top of Pike's Peak!!! We'd seen a man & a woman with flowers & dressed up with a suit & the woman in heels. After a while, John thought the man looked like an Unser. So, John went & talked to him & found out the scoop. Just an extra added attraction to an already fantastic trip. The couple who sat across from us, Doug & Theresa, were really nice & made the trip that more enjoyable.
This is the train we rode to the top of Pike's Peak & the rest of all the pictures we took on the way up, while we were at the top & on the way down.

Looking back to where we had been - we sat backwards

That is Colorado Springs in the valley

Closer to the top, the rocks were all broken up - this is due the rocks freezing & then thawing - it breaks them up

This used to be settlement of sorts for the workers on railroad

This is a time capsule put in in 1999

Look closely - this is the only snow we saw & we were at 14,000ft.

What a cool trip! That will have to go on our list of things to do. The cog railroad looks a little like the one we rode to the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire.
